Thank you for awarding me the Senior
High School Class of 19468 Scholarship
in Honor of Fred & Ramona Frazier
McQueary. I appreciate your generosity
in helping me to fund my education at
Carleton College; without scholarships
like this one, I would not have been able
to afford my first-choice school.
At Carleton, I am planning to double-major
in biology and psychology so that I can
pursue a career as a college professor.
Thank you for your support and awarding
me this scholarship.
Sincerely,
Alice Barber |

SHS Class of 1948

Dear Mr. Barclay,
I would like to use this letter to tell you about
my college experience so far. I chose to attend William Jewell College
because I felt that the campus was very intimate, like a big campus-wide
family. As time passes here on the Hill, I am finding my place within a
number of smaller “families” on campus. Notably, I have become involved in
the theatre program here, and had a wonderful time acting in the fall
production of Shakespeare’s classic, Macbeth. I have also joined the
Alpha Delta Pi sorority. We are one of the smaller Greek chapters here on
campus, but we are truly a family of academically-minded women committed to
supporting each other throughout college and for the rest of our lives.
Here at Jewell, I am currently part of the prestigious Oxbridge Honors
Program. This program allows me to take intensely focused “tutorial” style
classes, where the classes are often limited to five or less students. In my
junior year, as part of the Oxbridge Program, I will travel to England
and study for a full year at either Oxford or Cambridge University. Within
this program, I had been trying to decide between a History major and an
English major, but I finally settled on History, and look forward to being
able to study among old English castles and the beautiful English
countryside. Because of my great interest in areas like theatre and film, I
am also considering a minor in either theatre or communications. I don’t
have all the details pegged down yet, but I am surrounded by a competent and
caring faculty who simply want me to succeed at whatever I decide
to do. By the time I graduate in the spring of 2012, I know I’ll have
everything I need to go out and take on the world.
Although graduation may seem a long ways away, I
know from my high school experience that four years can pass in a flash. I
know that ultimately, I want to spend my life involved in film. Movies have
captured my heart since I was very young, enrapturing me with their power to
transport and inspire and, more recently, their power to inform and change.
For quite a while I have wanted to pursue acting, but more recently I am
considering career paths that include writing and directing as well. The
temptation to run off to Hollywood as soon as I’ve got my diploma in hand is
always there, but I am also considering going to film school after I have
graduated. At any rate, I hope that over the next few years of my life, I
will be able to flourish creatively and keep fueling my love of and passion
for film.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and letting me share my
story with you. If you would like to contact me with questions, comments, or
even just a little note to say hello, my e-mail address
is bieleckikwilliam.jewell.edu and I would love to hear from you. I hope
this letter brought a smile to your face, even a little one. Take care, and
I sincerely thank you for supplying me and many other students with the
means to an excellent education.
Sincerely,
Karina Bielecki

Dear Ms. Russell,
Thank you for the support of my
education at William Jewell College. I am honored to be one of the
recipients of the SHS Class of 1948 Scholarship in honor of Fred M. & Ramona
Frazier McQueary. Thank you also for the lovely reception my parents and I
attended. I am extremely excited to begin college at my young age and this
award brings me one step closer.
Financial and academic challenges have been a part of my
life, but have inspired me to work harder. I relish intellectual challenge,
and am looking forward to the education and opportunities a college degree
will provide.
This fall, I will be a freshman at William
Jewell College, working hard and pursuing a degree in history or literature
as well as a degree in communications. I also have been accepted into the
Oxbridge Honors Program, a rigorous curriculum which will take me all the
way to England for my junior year of study.
I feel that my hard work in high school and service to
my community have prepared me well for college. In turn, I believe that my
education will take me to new heights and prepare me for my dream of being a
filmmaker. Ultimately, I want to leave my mark on the world through films
that are important to my society. Perhaps one day you will see my name roll
in the credits as the lights dim in a movie theater!
Once again, I cannot thank you enough for this award and
the generous support of the SHS Class of 1948 Scholarship in honor of Fred
M. & Ramona Frazier McQueary.
Sincerely,
Karina Bielecki

Dear Mr. Barclay and
other SHS Class of 1948 Donors,
With family roots in
the Ozarks for over five generations, there was never the thought of leaving
the area, even for college. So looking for local scholarships became a goal
of my senior year at Central High. I’ve been feeling the stress of
attempting to pay for my education and it is a daunting task. Receiving the
SHS Class of 1948 Memorial Scholarship has given me the assurance I needed
in this all-important first year of college.
Since I haven’t taken
any classes yet, I’m still not assured of my major, but I think that a major
in Illustration would be best for my skills and goals as an artist. A minor
in library science would unite two
other great passions of mine: literature and organization.
Being an artist
doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t connect you and your ideas to others,
other artists in your community, and the community itself. Engaging the
community as a whole in art, both as a process and a final product is
something I believe makes a difference in a community. This is when art
impacts people’s lives, bringing them together, and hopefully changing their
perceptions about an infinite number of topics. There are so many
possibilities open to an artist, but the ultimate goal for me is to do what
I love. Thank you for giving me that opportunity.

Dear Mr. Barclay,
I would like to thank you for your generosity and for the investment you
have made in my future. I can assure you that it will be money
well-invested. In the upcoming year, I plan on majoring in Chemistry
and attending Truman State University. After I complete my BS degree,I plan
on continuing my education by pursuing a doctorate degree in
the field. Upon graduating, I plan on teaching in a university setting. As
you can see, the scholarship granted to me will aid me in managing my
education expenses.
If you wish to contact me, feel free to do so at the e-mail address:thebulgarian@gmail.com.
Again, I wish to thank you and your classmates
for your generosity.

Dear Mr.
Barclay,
May 8, 2006
I would
like to thank you for the interest that you and your class have shown in me
and my future.
It is heartening to be contacted by someone in such a personal way in regards to
a scholarship; too many corporations or organizations seem interested only in
meeting their quota for such things and then moving on. As President of the CHS
History Club, it is doubly rewarding to be able to talk with someone from
Central High’s storied past. Perhaps someday I will be awarding money on behalf
of the class of 2006 to a grateful young person.
Come fall I will be attending American University in Washington D.C. I plan on
majoring in political science through their school of Public Affairs. The money
I have been awarded will go to help me to meet the costs of living and studying
in our nation’s capital. If you wish to contact me, feel free to do so at AnFogle@aol.com. Again, I thank you and
your classmates profusely for the opportunity you have afforded me. I suspect
that you will find it to be money well invested.
Sincerely,
Andrew Fogle

Mr. Barclay,
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity
and the contribution you have made to help me achieve my goals. I apologize
for the belated nature of this reply! It is wonderful to see that there
exists an organization that is founded on such a personal degree of
interaction and contribution; I appreciate the genuine interest you and
your organization have in my future and the future of other students
like myself. This fall I will be studying fine art at the Corcoran
College of Art and Design in Washington DC. After I receive my
undergraduate BFA, I plan pursue a masters degree in my field of study.
The scholarship I have been given will help me meet the financial needs
of my studies in Washington. If you wish to contact me, my e-mail
address that I will be using in the future is
christopher@christopercunetto.com. I look forward very much to
beginning my studies in the fall. Once again, I am extremely grateful
for the contribution you and your classmates have made to my future.
Sincerely,
|
